Communities Directory. This is an extremely useful directory for anyone interested in learning about, visiting or participating in a cooperative living situation. The Directory features community listings of over 600 communities in North America, each with a brief description and contact information, over 100 listings on other continents, 33 pages of articles about community living, an extensive index of community resources, recommended reading, maps, a cross-reference chart and a very helpful index. Between all of these features, it makes it very easy to find a community, whether you are looking based on location, livelihood, spiritual orientation, size or none or all of the above! The Directory comes out once every five years, which can make some of the info slightly outdated. (the next should be coming out in 2005) However, for $5, you can send in a postcard, provided in the back of the Directory, to receive a yearly update supplement. Also, some information can likewise be found on the Intentional Communities website, www.ic.org.
