AUTHOR: Joel Salatin. You Can Farm, The Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and $ucceeding in a Farming Enterprise. Have you ever desired, deep within your soul, to make a comfortable full-time living from a family farm? Too often people dare not even vocalize this desire because it seems absurd. It's like thinking the unthinkable. But for farm entrepreneurs, the opportunities have never been greater. The aging farm population is creating cavernous niches begging to be filled by creative visionaries who will go in dynamic new directions. As the industrial agricultural complex crumbles and our culture clambers for clean food, the countryside beckons anew with profitable farming opportunities. Chapters include: Envisioning Your Future, Examining Your Ideas, Embarking on Your Adventure (buying land, purchasing equipment, being neighborly), Evolving Your Model (grass is the center), Establishing Your Market (developing a customer base, pricing, communication). If you envision being a successful family farmer, whether starting from scratch or turning your present operation around, start with this book. You Can Farm made me a huge fan of Joel Salatin!, November 23, 2009 Reviewer: Cynthia from CA You Can Farm made me a huge fan of Joel Salatin. We have raised chickens in our backyard for about five years, and had organic gardens for twenty so we had heard about Salatin Pens, but nothing prepared me for how much I now value this book ~ we learned a lot from Mr. Salatin! Besides great information, he has a conversational manner that made the book hard to put down. (I finished it in three days and am about to enjoy reading it again!)
One of his suggestions (by itself worth more than the price of the book) for organization we have incorporated on our "mini-farm" and seen productivity sky-rocket. I plan to purchase more of his books and give them as gifts.
