CREATING HAPPY KIDS, HAPPY ADULTS, AND HAPPY FOOD, November 25, 2008 Reviewer: DC, Between The Lines Reviews CREATING HAPPY KIDS, HAPPY ADULTS, AND HAPPY FOOD
Beth Sheresh no doubt has been surrounded in the kitchen by the upturned faces of kids that just want to help. So, why not? They're young, they're hungry, and you might be surprised to find that your kids would also like to help. Especially with the gooey, mushy, get into it up to your elbows bits!
I'm happy to have found that this book really looks at working with kids from a variety of angles. With so many young folks, unaware of where their food comes from a book like this addresses this issue among many others. Is it dangerous, how much do you let them do on their own, etc. Beth also offers tips on shopping, chopping, and what freezes well.
Another wonderful element is the interesting variations on old favorites. Kids will have their own favorites and while you want to aim them towards the fresh stuff you grew up with, keep in mind that they simply may favor zucchini over your favorite, broccoli. Beth's helpful bits on getting everyone to the table together creates a platform for returning us to the days when everyone shared in preparing for the meal and enjoyed the retelling of the days adventures around the dinner table.
Why not look forward to a time when what's put forth in this book can be happening in your kitchen. Picture Yourself Cooking with Your Kids can help get you there.
