Howdy folks,
Possibly some of you are wondering what it is like to work at a .com startup, first of all Back 40 Books is not a typical .com startup company. Our founders Herman Beck and Linda Lee are both very warm, intelligent and creative individuals, who value respect, understanding and their own chosen lifestyle (that of self reliance and teachers of the same values), above the hustle and bustle of city life, even though being in a large metropolitan area would provide many features to run an online business, that would simply not be "who they are". Herm and Linda have chosen to live and run their business on their own "Nature's Pace Sanctuary" an 175 acre farm, secluded in the Missouri Ozarks and tucked away amidst the Mark Twain National Forest. What this means is that when we take a small breather all we have to do is look out the window to see a huge hill side in the near distance covered in evergreens, oaks and magnificent rock formations. Even on a day like I am writing this (overcast and sputtering small amounts of rain), the display is beauty and wonder, on my way to work I viewed 6 Whitetail deer crossing the road and when I exited my vehicle I heard the sounds of wild turkeys in the woods. It is a common sight to see a hawk or three lazily drifting in the sky, and the whole countryside is covered with small rambling streams and wildflowers. At my previous place of employment I sat in an office with no windows and could work a week in the wintertime and not see the sun shine, so trust me when I say this is infinitely better. The work that we do here can range from data entry to shooting a 2 minute video on a product or remixing music of an independent artist or editing a documentary video or even programming our soon to air internet radio station, so we do keep busy but everyone enjoys the work we do and we feel that what we do here is important and that everything we do does make a difference. Over the next few entries we will introduce you to the crew that works here and I may put in an introduction of myself as well. Anywho thanks for listening and see you in a bit.
