Anyone Can Build a Whizbang Chicken Plucker by Herrick Kimball. O.K., you have raised the flock and are ready for a good chicken dinner. The problem is you hate plucking the birds. The answer to making a tough job as easy as pie is to use a mechanical plucker, but they are expensive. Anyone Can Build A Tub-Style Mechanical Chicken Plucker is a hands-on guide to building a great, inexpensive plucker out of parts you can easily get at Grainger. This one is tough enough to do ducks and turkeys, too. Author and poultry farmer Herrick Kimball does a great job of explaining how to build the unit, and did a good job on the illustrations as well. DH just built one for this last batch of 50 broilers we processed 2 weeks
ago. we bought the rubber fingers (about $100), he got a tub from work and found
an old motor in a neighbor's garage. had the metal turntable (not sure what
it's actually called) made ($20), cost of pulleys, lumber, electrical wiring,
switch and misc items about $20. work saved using plucker - PRICELESS!
worked absolutely wonderfully.
